Heat Advisory - Tips To Stay Safe In The Summer Heat

With climbing temperatures across New York, it is important to take precautions to stay safe and healthy.

Below are hot weather safety tips to keep in mind:

1. Check on your neighbors - especially seniors and families with young children, as they are the people in greatest danger in extreme heat and humidity.

2. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated!

3. Avoid going out in the heat during the hottest part of the day.

4. Take frequent breaks when working outdoors.

5. At the first sign of heat illness (dizziness, weakness, headaches, nausea, muscle cramps), move to a cooler location, rest for a few minutes, and slowly drink a cool beverage.

6. Take cool baths or showers if you feel overheated.

7. Wear light, loose fitting clothing and wear a hat to protect your head and face.

8. Do not leave children or pets in the car.
