Marc Miller House Party

Dear Friends:
As you may know, my close friend Laurie Cumbo has decided to choose the noble path
of running for public office and is working to become the next New York City Council
Member for the 35th Council District. Her district covers the communities of Fort
Greene, Clinton Hill, Prospect Heights, Crown Heights, and parts of Bedford
What sets Laurie apart from the rest is her commitment to our community. She has
dedicated her life to ensuring that everyone in Brooklyn receives the education
opportunities that all of New York’s thriving neighborhoods have come to expect. Laurie
recognizes the power of art to invigorate and energize our youth. As the founder of the
Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts, Laurie pioneered programs such as:
outdoor film festivals, after-school programs, mural projects, walking tours, bus tours
with “Braggin’ about Brooklyn.”
Not only has Laurie made considerable contributions to our community, but she also
understands the issues that are ahead. She has seen and experienced firsthand how
inequity, corruption, nepotism and bureaucracy continue to plague City government and
penalize its residents. It is this knowledge and knowhow that will guide her as a member
of the New York City Council, and I humbly ask you to offer her your support.
I have planned a house party in honor of Laure Cumbo on Sunday, May 5th from 3PM-
5PM, 134 South Oxford Street, Brooklyn, NY 11217. This will be a chance to greet
Laurie, and to interact with her in an informal, personal setting. Don’t miss this
opportunity! We are asking for a donation of $25 per person or $40 per couple for this
event. Please feel free to donate more if possible, or less if necessary.
We hope you’ll join us to listen to, applaud, and encourage Laurie!
